A Forgotten Civil War Commander’s Birthday Remembered

With Robert E. Lee’s and Stonewall Jackson’s birthdays upon us, lest we forget another great Confederate Commander on his birthday, the Honorable Colonel Angus.

Colonel Angus’ bravery at the Battle of Big Beaver is duelly noted by both Federal and Confederate historians, in spite of suffering great losses and receiving a serious injury to his jaw. Colonel Angus’ movements through the hot and sticky South in the summer of 1863 solidified his stature as a man who knew how to navigate the often rough and tumble of the Deep South.

While quite the lady’s man in his day, often times philandering his way through cities like Charleston and Savannah, Colonel Angus was very sweet and his appreciation for his wife Connie Lingus who he would marry after the War of Northern Aggression was immense. Although Colonel Angus wasn’t very popular then, Colonel Angus is very much celebrated among many today.

Happy Birthday, Colonel!
